Project Excel - Adolescent Substance Abuse Treatment

Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary defines the word “Excel” as “to Distinguish Oneself”. The goal of Project Excel is to raise the level of understanding regarding alcohol and drug addiction as well as providing a treatment program that will address the problems being experienced by the young people who walk through our doors. The ultimate goal is to have each young person distinguish themselves by actively participating in their treatment program and leaving with a foundation for continued sobriety in the future.

Location

Twelve Oaks is a private, free-standing 102 facility located on the Gulf of Mexico in Navarre, Florida. The five acre campus borders a sandy beach and provides a serene setting for all its distinctive treatment programs. Twelve Oaks has dedicated sixteen beds for the treatment of Adolescents.

Staff

The staff of Project Excel is made up of an ASAM certified physician, Masters’ Degree counselor, an experiential residential counselor as well as other counselors and nurses who have experience dealing with the needs of adolescents in treatment.

Licensure/Accreditation

Twelve Oaks and Project Excel are licensed by the State of Florida -Department of Children and Families and nationally accredited by CARF (Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities).

Medication

Residents can be maintained on medications as prescribed by their own personal physician(s). Detox medication will be prescribed and monitored by our attending ASAM (American Society of Addiction Medicine) certified physician. Other medications may be recommended, but in all instances, parents will be advised and their consent will be obtained prior to administering any medication.

Aftercare

Twelve Oaks adolescent counselor(s) will assist the adolescent and their family with obtaining an appropriate outpatient aftercare provider within their home community. If the adolescent already has an aftercare provider, the staff at Twelve Oaks will insure that this individual is apprised of the adolescents’ treatment program while at Twelve Oaks and their progress.

Admissions

Twelve Oaks accepts adolescent boys and girls ages 13-17 who are experiencing alcohol and drug problems. A typical length of stay is 21-28 days. All major insurances are accepted including Tricare. If no insurance is available, then a self pay contract can be negotiated.

Admissions can occur seven days a week and transportation can be provided.

Warning Signs of Drug Abuse in Adolescents

  • Drop in academic performance & unexplained school absences.
  • Lack of interest in personal appearance.
  • Withdrawal, isolation, depression, fatigue.
  • Aggressive, rebellious behavior.
  • Hostility and lack of cooperativeness.
  • Deteriorating relationships with family including passive attitudes toward or withdrawal from family activities and discussions.
  • Change in friends and/or secrecy about new acquaintances and their activities.
  • Loss of interest in hobbies and/or sports.
  • Change in eating/sleeping habits.
  • Radical fluctuation in weight, appetite or thirst.
  • Excessive use of eye drops or breath mints.
  • Evidence of drugs or drug paraphernalia.
  • Physical changes (e.g., runny nose not from cold, red eyes, coughing, wheezing, bruises, needle marks).
  • Borrowing excessive amounts of money or cash and other items missing from home.
