Meth Treatment

Methamphetamine Dangers

It is a myth that methamphetamine is safer than cocaine or heroin. Methamphetamine is harmful, both mentally and physically. The impurities inherent in homemade drugs, such as methamphetamine, add to its toxicity. The dangers of methamphetamine use include:
  • Cardiovascular (rapid, irregular heartbeat, stroke)
  • Nausea
  • Damage to brain chemistry
  • Aggressive, violent behavior
  • Psychotic episodes
  • Dangerously high temperature
  • Death by overdose
These symptoms are often severe enough to necessitate prompt medical intervention. Physical addiction to methamphetamine is very rapid. The user quickly needs more and more to avoid the withdrawal symptoms.

Detoxification and Withdrawal

At Twelve Oaks we provide close medical monitoring of methamphetamine detoxification to treat toxic symptoms and treat withdrawal. Registered nurses observe the patient around the clock with the patient is detoxifying. Doctors are available 24 hours a day.
Symptoms of withdrawal can include, but are not limited to:
  • Severe depression
  • Irritability
  • Sleep disturbance
  • Extreme exhaustion
  • Seizures
  • Coma
  • Paranoid feelings
  • Suicidal ideation
  • Psychotic behavior
Registered nurses observe vital signs and medicate carefully to keep patients safe and prevent seizures. Withdrawal from methamphetamine is often extended and the patient may develop severe problems several days after their last use. Problems that may develop include:meth-induced psychosis (patient hallucinates and loses touch with reality). These patients need a lot of support and encouragement during wide mood swings that occur during withdrawal. The adverse effect of methamphetamines on brain chemistry can be long lasting.

Treatment

Cognitive therapy is used during the course of treatment to deal with depression (short-term antidepressant meds may also be indicated). Impulse control exercises are used to help patients deal with cravings, anxiety, and agitation. Patients are involved in 12 step support groups with strong spiritual emphasis to deal with their feelings of hopelessness. Family involvement during treatment is strongly encouraged as well as aftercare attendance after the initial treatment program is completed. Attention is also given to nutritional or other physical problems that may have developed. Exercise helps heal damaged brain chemistry by stimulating endorphin production, so an exercise regime is also encouraged.

Online Treatment

Internet-based Treatment

Twelve Oaks Recovery Center's commitment to provide the complete continuum of treatment services now includes internet based Primary Treatment and Continuing Care. The unique partnership between Twelve Oaks Recovery Center and eGetgoing combines proven traditional group treatment methods with the latest Internet technology to bring you the first ever, live, interactive group treatment and continuing care online.

Online treatment can strengthen and enhance recovery. We are proud to offer this new and innovative technology to our patients.

Internet Based Drug and Alcohol Treatment and Counseling

During Primary Treatment clients participate in groups online supervised by an experienced addiction counselor. Through eGetgoing, Twelve Oaks Recovery Center expands the availability of professional facilitators and gives each client a variety of options to learn and interact.

Relapse prevention groups are held weekly. Twelve Oaks' clients are joined by clients in the CRC Health network and have the opportunity to interact with others in the process of recovery. This is an exciting addition to standard treatment and has been received with enthusiasm by staff and clients.

Continuing Care

Continuing Care provides an opportunity to continue to practice the tools taught in treatment, as well as a chance to build a supportive network with others who are also in recovery. These programs are important because ongoing support is crucial in relapse prevention.

Facilitated by our online counselor, Continuing Care is a text-based, weekly discussion group focused on relapse prevention and improving coping skills to build a solid recovery. With this program, no matter where you are in the world you have access to support. We want to help you succeed on your new path.

We bring live treatment to you. eGetgoing.com is ideal for anyone who is looking for an alternative to traditional treatment programs, who is unable to access traditional treatment programs or who wants to strengthen recovery after completing a traditional treatment program.

teenGetgoing.com - Online Treatment for Adolescents

Online treatment is a new way to deal with problems caused by alcohol and drug addiction. It is a group with other teens, who share their experiences and opinions and discuss specific topics. This program does not depend on dull lectures, but is based on discussion with other teens that allows you to engage with others in order to promote recovery.

Online treatment allows teens to join a live group with others who have similar problems. The same group meets together online, working with the same counselor. In the group, there are discussions, informative slides, opinion polls, and videos, as well as personal time with a counselor.

Live counselor-led groups are held online twice a week. You can talk directly with other teens and you can see your counselor. Working together, you can develop the tools needed to deal with the problems associated with drug and alcohol addiction, while providing support for recovery.
